6 STEPS TO GROWING COLORADO WILDFLOWERS
Wildflowers are a great way to add some variety to your landscaping. Wildflowers provide a colorful change throughout the growing season and are easy to manage.
Here are a few easy steps to help you get started!
1. CHECK THE CALENDAR AND THE WEATHER
Make sure you’re planting the correct species of flowers during the appropriate time of year. In Colorado’s climate it’s best to plant the seeds after the last frost has passed.
2. PREPARE YOUR SITE
Look for a spot that has a minimum of six hours of sunlight per day. If you don’t have a sunny spot, look for a seed package that contains a “partial shade mixture.” Then you’ll need to remove all existing debris and make sure you have healthy soil for your seedlings.
3. SCATTER YOUR SEEDS
Double check the directions on your packaging, but typically if it’s possible in your area, seedlings will do best if you plant them so that Mother Nature can water them.
4. COMPRESS THE SEEDS
Walking over them is an easy way to do this. There’s no need to bury the seeds – they need sunshine to grow!
5. WATER
Make sure your soil is moist but never overwater the seedlings. Once your flowers are 4-6” tall they should survive on natural rains.
